Kym Pitman

Kym Pitman
Million Star Hotel

Latest Rouseabout & AntiPod Music signing Kym Pitman has a special place amongst Australian singer songwriters. Her songs and music are deeply an expression of place and ecological connection.

They inspire an enlivened sense of presence and emotional recognition of human experience and wild landscape -"a uniquely female, Australian perspective brimming with heart, spirit, experience and a love of country".
Kym Pitman has been described by SMH’s Bruce Elder as ‘...a clear and pure voice... rustic and romantic.’ A regular on the folk music festival circuit her album Million Star Hotel is set for a September 2010 release on Rouseabout Records.

Born in South Australia, Kym began performing as a singer songwriter in Adelaide’s Music bars and Cafes as a teenager in the late seventies and early eighties. Later moving to regional NSW she has recorded three albums and performed extensively on Australia’s festival circuit. As a multi instrumentalist playing guitar, fiddle, viola and banjo, Kym’s enchanting concerts are a poignant journey rambling evocatively between coast, desert, gorge and tableland. She inspires hope and leaves her audiences moved and uplifted.

In her home town of Bellingen NSW, Kym is founder the Bellingen Wilderness Youth Theatre - a unique rite of passage for young people, integrating wilderness treks with theatre and music to help teenagers develop a sense of place and belonging. This work is also a great source of musical and lyrical inspiration.

Kym also plays with the band Trunk Road.

Kym writes lyrics and music that dance with the spirit of the land and she sings them with rare grace & beauty.

What the Media have to Say...

‘Million Star Hotel’

Maybe us city folk have forgotten what its like to look up at the stars at night and ponder which room we're in, in the biggest hotel of them all: 'A Million Star Hotel'. Kym Pitman lives in a country full of big sky views that vibrate an essence we rarely see in the northern hemisphere. Her heartfelt connection to Earth is poetically expressed in every song on her new album. Though critics have given more accolades to the title track, there are others that are of equal poignancy, "Hold You In A Circle," won third place in Eco Arts Awards, 2012 songwriting competition. This song is a true love song from the perspective of Earth to us, as Kym sings: "She wants to hold you, She want to love you, and sing to you with running water, and cry on you fresh tears of dew, and kiss you with her sweet, sweet breath."
When pondering the question can a song move us to change, Kym Pitman's, 'Hold You In A Circle' as well as, 'A Million Star Hotel' will make you consider that perhaps this is true. Is there a greater motivator in all the world than, love? Though it has been said that what the world needs now is love, sweet love, what the world truly needs is to feel our love for her. Kym, thank you, for utilizing your obvious talent toward reminding us all about the million star hotel we live in, and how she simply wants to hold us in a circle.

May more and more artists generate as much insightful compassion toward our home as Kym Pitman.

“Casual, cool, calming and evocative. The clarity of the vocal and its delicate approach serve perfectly to carry the vast landscapes painted by the lyrics. Same can be said of the subtle instrumentation. To highlight particular tracks really would do a disservice to the album as a whole. Just know it really is food for the soul and best consumed complete. Definitely deserving of many a listen/repeat exploration.”
(Matt Lawrence, Capital News, January 2011).
