Kym Pitman

Latest Rouseabout & AntiPod Music signing Kym Pitman has a special place amongst Australian singer songwriters. Her songs and music are deeply an expression of place and ecological connection.

They inspire an enlivened sense of presence and emotional recognition of human experience and wild landscape -"a uniquely female, Australian perspective brimming with heart, spirit, experience and a love of country".
Based in Bellingen (NSW) Kym Pitman has been described by SMH’s Bruce Elder as ‘...a clear and pure voice... rustic and romantic.’ A regular on the folk music festival circuit her album Million Star Hotel is out now with the title track featured on the September 2010 edition of NfS Country Singles For Radio.
Kym writes lyrics and music that dance with the spirit of the land and sings them with rare grace & beauty. She is currently on a whirlwind tour of the United Kingdom before returning home for the Summer Festival circuit.

Listen to songs from the album on this month’s edition of UCM Radio to hear why we’re thrilled to have her on our roster.

Fiddlers Feast

Fiddlers Feast has always been intensely proud of their roots.... They started at the Tamworth Country Music Festival. It's in their blood! That is why they recently performed at the Newcastle Jazz Festival! What? Has the NJF gone country? Or is the FF really true to its nature?

Okay, okay let's come clean! Just because they are a fiddle band, and started at the home of Oz country music, doesn't mean they're a country band. Well they are, but they're also an ‘everything band’. So, that’s why they pulled out the hoary old jazz chestnuts for Newcastle.

Next stop China, playing at the Oz Pavilion at EXPO in Shanghai from September 2nd to 8th.

Amazing, but what sort of music were they playing?

That's for you to figure out.

Fiddlers Feast’s Frenzee (RRR40) is available on CD through Rouseabout Records. Their three other albums are available digitally through iTunes.

Gary Shearston

Gary Shearston, the father of Australian folk & king of the heap has just finished recording a new studio album aptly titled Renegade. As with the 2009 release The Best of All Trades the album was recorded by Restless Music’s Roger Ilott who is “extremely happy with the results”.

Shearston is in prolific songwriting form and his latest batch is as good as anything he has written. Renegade features Lee Williams on bass (& guitars) and making his recording debut Luke Shearston on drums, with able contributions also from Roger Ilott, Penny Davies & Jordan Davies-Ilott.

The new album was mixed by Jorden Brebach (The Church, You Am I, Grinspoon, Dappled Cities, gB3) and will be mastered by William Bowden this month.

The Celebrated Knackers + Knockers Band

Rouseabout Records has released two restricted triple-R CDs of bawdy songs by The Celebrated Knackers and Knockers Band.

Titled Sing Us Anothery, Dirty As Buggery and Rooted in the Country, the songs on the albums are very politically incorrect - racist, homophobic, sexist and every other taboo - and all collected from Australia’s rugby, bushwalking and rabblerousing past, and an important record of our disappearing colloquial language.

These albums are sure to offend, shock (and entertain) whilst saluting our musical past as they represent the first comprehensive collection of Australian bawdy songs and verse.

The Celebrated Knackers & Knockers Band and their good mate Major Bumsore are featured in the latest edition of Trad & Now. Check out this month’s edition of UCM Radio for a taste of what they have on offer.

Mic Conway’s National Junk Band

Mic Conway and the National Junk Band will be part of the inaugural Sydney Fringe Festival. It has been a while since the Junk Band have played in Sydney. They've been off lolly-gagging at Adelaide Cabaret Festival, and then Mic sloped into Melbourne Cabaret in July. They are an official selection by the Sydney Fringe Festival and with Cazzbo back from overseas duties and the amazingly amazing Birdmann along for the ride and it promises to be a night of laughs and astonishment.

Mic, in his various incarnations, has a number of shows coming up in VICTORIA, NSW and WA and has just had his website overhauled. There are links to Captain Matchbox clips as well as a look at Mic's kids stuff and upcoming Junk Band shows. Have a look at www.micconway.com.
