In the meantime, BOOKINGS ARE NOW OPEN for the Sydney Festival’s '40 WAYS TO LOVE YOUR CITY' - a one-hour history romp with more than a touch of vaudeville. Don't miss Sydney’s larrikin raconteur Warren Fahey with Christa Hughes and Mic Conway's National Junk Band performing three daytime shows in The Famous Spiegeltent, Hyde Park Village on Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th January. Marking 40 years of Sydney Festival, Fahey leads a storyteller’s merry dance through the Festival’s rich history. From Waratahs and flare pants via rowdy New Year’s celebrations and a sinking ferry, these four decades of summer celebration are a colourful reflection of Sydney’s ever-changing city and its people. Direct booking are available from the Sydney Festival website.

Warren will then be away cruising as guest speaker on the Queen Victoria from 28th February to 8th March. (Source: Warren Fahey's BODGIE NEWS)

Suffice to say it’s a very busy start to 2016 for the cultural historian, author and performer extraordinaire.

Cathie O'Sullivan

Cathie O'Sullivan

The plaudits continue for Cathie O’Sullivan, this time from the Sydney Morning Herald’s John Shand. In a four star review he suggests “Some albums should be consigned to history at the earliest convenience, while others deserve resurrection and eternal life. A long-time member of the Larrikins and subsequently an academic, O’Sullivan has an important place in the fabric of Oz folk music, and here you can learn why. Her singing has a rare vivacity, so the words carry all the sudden surprise of seeing flowers that had not bloomed yesterday. In addition to her own Irish harp, she surrounds her voice with the brilliance of Cleis Pearce (strings), Jim Denley (reeds), Steve Elphick (bass) and Greg Sheehan (drums, percussion), four of the finest improvising players Australia ever produced.”

Down By The Green Bushes (RRR65) & Silly Winds(RRR66) are OUT NOW digitally through iTunes and on CD directly from Undercover Music via mail order.

Jim Low

JIM LOW

“Jim Low could well be one of Australia's greatest unsung musical historians” (Capital News). His new album Journey’s End is now available digitally via iTunes and will be released on CD through MGM Distribution or directly from Undercover Music via mail order in February 2016.

Journey’s End is Low’s third album release on Rouseabout Records and again seems him teaming up with Chloe & Jason Roweth. The album was recorded at their studio in Millthorpe, central western NSW. Jim was constantly delighted with the results of their innovative, music decisions.

The album is dedicated to the memory of Gary Shearston, whose inspiration and encouragement over the years will never be forgotten. Gary’s admiration for Jim was also reciprocal … “Jim travels gently, digs out rich nuggets of Australiana, observes them acutely and with compassion, and then puts his historical vignettes to melodies that pass 'the old grey whistle test' with distinction. Go with him on his travels. I think you'll enjoy the journey.”

The accompanying 20 page booklet designed by Jim’s daughter Susannah includes song lyrics, relevant information and photographs which all add to the listening experience.
