Shaun Parker THIS SHOW IS ABOUT PEOPLE

This Show Is About People is a daring music-theatre-dance collaboration between dancer-choreographer and counter-tenor Shaun Parker and the renowned musicians and vocalists Mara and Llew Kiek. In the theatrical production the audience observes a group of strangers found in a transit lounge who are compelled to question their belief systems and the fundamental aspects of humanity. Robust, high-impact dance is layered with intricate gesture and fused with a sensitive array of live music. Drawing surprising connections between experiences both intense and peaceful, vigorous and gentle, This Show Is About People shows us how our sense of fun and capacity for joy depends as much on other people as on ourselves. This Show Is About People is music, dance and theatre at it's most arresting and world premiered at the Melbourne International Festival 2007 and the Sydney Festival 2008.

The other worldly soundtrack produced by CODA's Nick Wales and Mara & Llew Kiek features Bulgarian and medieval music and shepherds them into a chillingly contemporary setting to express the depth and complexity of emotional and spiritual ideas broached in This Show Is About People.
"An intricate and expressive work manipulated by music and machinery... sensuous and hard-edged... dangerous and daring" (Sydney Morning Herald), This Show Is About People is on at the Drama Theatre - Sydney Opera House from January 23-26.

Shaun Parker This Show Is About People (SIL016) is out on Silent Recordings through Vitamin. 'Polegnala e Pschenitsa' in this month's edition of Undercover Radio, listen here.

Telemetry Orchestra

The TO's extremely talented Steve Scott recently did visuals for a Led Zepplin concert in London. Here's what Uncut Mag and NME had to say... 'The brief was simple, if the stage is the altar, create a backdrop that is fitting. Steve Scott set about creating beautiful sets of amazingly intricate designs that grow organically, building throughout the song to crescendo. The designs evoked complex kaleidoscopic stained glass windows forming the semblance of an abstract chimerical cathedral. The monolothic pillars from the Presence Album cover supplied an Oscar Niemeyer like support and with further Art Deco and Islamic influence in the film the psychadelic result was guaranteed.

On first sight of Steve's initial designs the band's response was classic rock n' roll lexicon, "Yeah Man, it's like, the Temple of Rock and we're the High Priests, Love it!" claimed the discerning clientele. And so cut to four weeks later, standing in an audience that contained amongst other luminaries; Paul McCartney, Liam & Noel Gallagher, Kevin Shields, Bobby Gillespie, Kate Moss, Richard Ashcroft, the Arctic Monkeys and Marilyn Manson, Not To Scale's Steve Scott and Producer Gin Godden watched Led Zepplin play Kashmir live in front of one of the world's largets monitor's a 28 x 12 metre giant and 20,000 screaming fans.'

Or as the NME put it... "The four-piece, dressed almost entirely in black except for Page's white shirt, played in front of a massive video screen which featured straight shots of the band at first, but then exploded into psychadelic colours for 'Kashmir', the best received song of the evening."  Nice work, if you can get it!

EMPIRE LP (SIL014) and Children Stay Free (SIL010) are both available on Silent Recordings through Vitamin.

Rouseabout Records

FORTE - Golden Fiddlers

Forte is an album of strung-out mayhem featuring Four Play, Marcy Taylor, CODA, Fiddlers Feast, Cin Cin, Mykl Lozin, Dirty Lucy and more.

Hey diddle diddle - these folks can sure play the fiddle! Released in conjunction with the Golden Fiddle Awards, the first awards which focus on nurturing, supporting and rewarding the wealth of violin playing, performing and composing talent in Australian and New Zealand, each and every particpant on this unique and entertaining collection belongs to a select group with acknowledged credentials.

There's the new generation fiddling as displayed by Migel MacLean, Peter O'Shea and the 'family' bands of The Bostocks and the Davidson Brothers. Jenny Thomas breathes new life into a fiddle-centric version of 'Waltzing Matilda' and Ian Cooper makes his 'Brazil' really swing. Original compositions are also featured, especially with the music of Sean O'Boyle, Marcela Taylor (nominated for this year's CMAA Golden Guitar Instrumental of the Year) anMykl Lozin. There are some wonderful ensemble tracks too where the fiddle jumps out and dances - Four Play, Cin Cin, CODA, Dirty Lucy and of course, Rouseabout's Fiddlers Feast. Golden Fiddle players all!
