Antenna

The Melbourne Review’s Phil Kakulas describes Antenna’s Come On Spring as ‘something of a lost gem’. Released in 1998, it was the product of a collaboration between ex-Scientist/Beast of Bourbon/Surrealist Kim Salmon, chief Hoodoo Guru Dave Faulkner and Stuart McCarthy and Justin Frew of techno/house outfit Southend – the latter best known for their dance floor mash-up of IOC chairman Juan Antonio Samaranch’s announcement that the host of the 2000 Olympics would be ‘Syd-er-ney’.

This collision of alternate musical universes, guaranteed to offend both rock and dance purists alike, produced one album, Installation, and its remarkable first single, Come On Spring – a lovechild of disparate musical styles that sounds as fresh and vital as the season it describes. Check out the full review here.

Well the alternative classic is lost no more with Yep! Records’ digital release this month. The song sounds as fresh as the day it was written as does the b side ‘Paris To Dacca’ which was the first track Antenna recorded.

Watch Antenna performing ‘Come On Spring’ live on ABC TV’s ‘Recovery’
plus check out the original video.

Installation will follow in October and will be accompanied by a brand new video mash-up of 10-4 conceived and edited by Gary Hillberg.

Come On Spring, do your thing......

The Lovetones

Beat Magazine’s Krystal Maynard suggests “The Lovetones latest release is a fantastic introduction to the band's back catalogue and at a time where psychedelic rock is experiencing a resurgence, it's seems apt that the youth look to bands who have been playing it for over a decade. Provenance is a well-rounded release; and a reminder of the wealth of Australian bands that too often get forgotten about.”

Matthew J Tow shares some lovely details with The Process Records about his accomplishments and his experiences of ten years of music with his amazing band, The Lovetones here.

The album can be heard in its entirety on Undercover Music’s SoundCloud and features all their classic pop masterpieces & loads more including a bonus DVD filmed by Moshcam at the Metro in Sydney.

Congratulations to Biddy & Sonny at We Buy Your Kids for their fantastic artwork which has been nominated for 'Best Cover Art' at this year's ARIA Awards. The duo scored further nominations for The Laurels & Alison Wonderland.

Meanwhile The Lovetones cover of ‘The Party’s Over’ for The Spirit of Talk Talk tribute album is highlighted on The Project’s Facebook site.

Look out for The Lovetones in Beat Magazine, Charter Magazine, The Process Records, Mess + Noise, The Brag, Time Out Sydney, Drum Media & Inpress and listen out for them on community radio nationwide especially 4ZzZ.
