Gary Shearston

Gary Shearston is a legend in Australian music with nigh on five decades of singing and songwriting - all with his distinctive voice and poignant stories. He has recently been described by the Sydney Morning Herald's Bruce Elder as "the closest Australia ever came to producing a local version of Bob Dylan".

In the 1960s he was Australia's best known folk singer and recorded a string of albums, hosted his own television show and performed across Australia. He then met international success, touring and recording in England. He returned to Australia in the eighties and now lives in Tenterfield.

Rouseabout Records recently released Here & There, Now & Then, a 2CD Anthology which continues to win the praises of critics across the nation and overseas. The Sunday Herald Sun's Pete Best writes "Shearston has written and interpreted some beautiful music. This two-CD set looks in all the nooks and crannies of the Shearston story. No gem has been discarded. He also wrote perhaps the smartest Australian song ever, 'Irish Girls Will Steal Your Heart Away'".

Gary is launching Here & There, Now & Then at a special Sunday afternoon concert at The Harp Hotel in Sydney on Sunday November 4th from 2-6PM. Gary is being supported by Warren Fahey & Marcus Holden who will open proceedings with an hour of bush songs and stories. Gary has also been invited to perform at the Australia Say Concert at the 2008 Tamworth Country Music Festival.
