Jim Low

Jim Low

The Further I Travel (RRR56) the new album from Blue Mountains based singer/songwriter Jim Low is out this month on Rouseabout Records digitally through iTunes and on CD directly from Undercover Music via ‘Mail Order’. The CD will also be available commercially through MGM Distribution in April.

The Further I Travel was recorded, mixed and mastered in Milthorpe NSW by Chloe and Jason Roweth and features Chloe on backing vocals & mandolin and Jason on bass, guitar & backing vocals. The album includes fourteen beautifully crafted songs by Low who long time inspiration and Australian folk music doyen Gary Shearston observes “digs out rich nuggets of Australiana, observes them acutely and with compassion, and then puts his historical vignettes to melodies that pass 'the old grey whistle test' with distinction.”

Jim’s passion for his work is also exemplified in the wonderful booklet artwork which was done by his daughter Susannah, an award winning designer who has again been short listed for this year's 60th Book Design Awards. Winners will be announced on 18th May 2012.

Jim begins touring to support the album release next month. Check out our Gig Guide for all the details and listen to this month’s edition of Undercover Radio for a taste of what is a very enjoyable journey.

Kym Pitman

Kym Pitman

Congratulations go out to Kym Pitman who has been nominated as a finalist in this year’s prestigious Eco Arts Awards for her song ‘Hold You in A Circle’.

Eco Arts Awards is a collaborative volunteer effort to utilize creativity to expand and enrich consciousness in culture for a more healthy ecology. The Awards seek to inspire more and more artists to use their talent, inspiration, passion and even a sense of humor, to help us all see through to a better way to co-habitat.

You can vote for Kym’s song in the People's Choice selection list which is located on the Eco Arts Awards website.

Elsewhere, Kym Pitman will be performing at this month’s Yackandandah Festival.

Bondi Cigars

Bondi Cigars

Bondi Cigars’ ever popular ARIA nominated double live album Down in the Valley (RRR2) will soon be available digitally for the first time through iTunes.

Down in the Valley finally saw the Cigars 'captured live' in front of an audience. There is little doubt that R&B sounds better when the audience is right up there with the band. James Nunn did a great job recording the songs over two steaming nights at Brisbane's 'The Healer' in Fortitude Valley (hence the title of the album).

Check out this month’s edition of Undercover Radio to hear their epic ‘Howling At The Moon’.

The band continues to tour tirelessly having just completed an extensive summer round of shows with more dates to be announced soon.

The Lovetones

To celebrate their tenth anniversary, Australia’s finest & longest standing purveyors of Psychedelic pop The Lovetones release Provenance – Collected Works (YEP014) is out on Yep! Records next month.

The album features all their classic pop masterpieces including ‘Mantra’, ‘Wintertime In Hollywood’, ‘City Meets the Stars’, ‘Love and Redemption’, ‘(I Gotta) Feel’, ‘Give It All I Can’ plus loads more including a bonus DVD filmed by Moshcam at the Metro in Sydney.

The BrianJonesTown Massacre’s Rob Campanella sums up his thoughts on the band as follows …..”Not since the heyday of the Who do you find this quality of songwriting combined with the caliber of a band that can actually, for lack of a better term, kick ass. For those who have heard the records and have seen the Lovetones live, they know they have witnessed something special. I have always said that in a perfect world (or in an earlier time period), “Wintertime In Hollywood” would have been an enormous hit single, a song that becomes ubiquitous in the public consciousness, a celebration of life and love through melody and music. I still have faith that one day it will eventually get there, as this, and many other of the songs created by the Lovetones, are truly songs for all time. Let’s celebrate them now, shall we?”

‘Wintertime in Hollywood’ and ‘City Meets the Stars’ are featured in this month’s edition of Undercover Radio.

The Lovetones have been confirmed for “Dig it Up! The Hoodoo Gurus Invitational” which sees the legendary Australian rockers invite some of their favourite acts and key influences for a one-of-a-kind tour that celebrates 30 years of recording history. Invitees also include the legendary garage-rock pioneers The Sonics, brothers-in-spirit, Redd Kross, The Fleshtones, Died Pretty, Japanese all-girl legends The 5.6.7.8's plus a hand-picked selection of local celebrities: Royal Headache, The Lovetones and Hard-Ons among them.

The Lovetones will also tour nationally to support the release.

Finally The Lovetones’ cover version of Talk Talk’s classic ‘The Party’s Over’ will be released as part of the Spirit of Talk Talk tribute album on UK label Fierce Panda on May 28. The album also includes Arcade Fire's Richard Reed Parry, Broken Social Scene's Kevin Drew, Weezer's Patrick Wilson, Depeche Mode’s Alan Wilder as well as covers by Jason Lytle, White Lies, Joan As Police Woman, S. Carey, Lia Ices and more.
