Marcus Holden

Marcus Holden

Marcus Holden is a musician with many strings to his bow. A soloist, composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Marcus has appeared on albums, commercials, films, some of the world's great concert venues and performed with the greats of Australian music scene for many years.

Marcus is a founding member of award-winning iconic Australian fiddle band Fiddlers Feast (who have just announced their dates for Tamworth Country Music Festival 2014) and a director of the Golden Fiddle Awards which recognize Australia's bowed string musicians and teachers.

Rouseabout Records is excited to announce the forthcoming February 2014 release of Marcus Holden’s debut solo album Cicadas & Roses.

Modern classical with folk overtones, delicate nose with BlackBerry high notes and a soft finish, Cicadas & Roses features pieces which Holden studied as a young violinist and challenged him to bring new life into by the likes of George F Handel, J S Bach, Antonio Vivaldi & Gabriel Faure, as well as an original composition ‘To Say Goodbye’.

Immaculately performed by some of Australia’s finest musicians, Cicadas & Roses includes artistic contributions from Raimondo Fioravanti, Garry Steel, Andrew Toner and Elsen Price, not to mention Holden himself playing violin, guitars, mandolin, violas, keyboards, strings, percussion, harp, dobro, qin & cittern just to name a few ……. Sheesh!

The album cover art features a work of the same title by Marcus’s mum Patti.

Check out this month’s edition of Undercover Radio to hear two pieces from the album as well as ‘The Devil Went Down To Tamworth’ from Fiddlers Feast’s Caravan LP.

Fiddlers Feast

Fiddlers Feast

Fiddlers Feast is a deliciously extravagant smorgasbord of Australian music. Described as "a powerhouse of Australian Celtic music that flies down bush tracks, over blue mountains and zips down the city highways"; "Fiddlers Feast tears through a typically bizarre and eclectic mix of jazz, folk, gypsy, country and rock"; "Rollicking fun, with plenty of fiddles, and a tight rhythm section playing with precision and power".

“Fiddlers Feast is the perfect festival band” (Blue Mountains Folk Festival, 2011) playing all the big Australian festivals including the National Folk Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival and Woodford. In addition they host their own concert series at the annual Country Music Festival in Tamworth.

“If you could have only one live band on your desert island, then choose Fiddler's Feast. They are rollicking fun, with plenty of fiddles, and a tight rhythm section playing with precision and power.”
(Limelight Magazine).

Be sure to catch them at TCMF 2014.

Around The Block

AROUND THE BLOCK is a contemporary story of love, revenge, and triumph. When a young indigenous boy becomes torn between his unexpected love for acting and the disintegration of his family he has to confront his past, challenge the present and finally determine his own destiny. Starring Christina Ricci, Jack Thompson, Daniel Henshall and introducing Hunter Page as the teenager at risk AROUND THE BLOCK is set in and around Redfern.

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September to incredibly receptive audiences and three sell-out screenings with everyone commenting on the strength of the music!

Originally scheduled for a November Australian release, the film’s producers have secured a partnership with a soon to be announced major distributor which will see the film shown on many more screens than originally anticipated sometime in early 2014.

As such, Silent Recordings’ release of the killer soundtrack has been delayed accordingly.

AROUND THE BLOCK (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) features a stellar line-up that includes Aussie Hip-Hop sensations Horrorshow, Thundamentals, Spit Syndicate, Astronomy Class & Tuka, Canadian indie darlings Half Moon Run, plus Matt & Kim, Jenny Morris, Ngaiire and CODA’s Nick Wales who also scored the film.

Ngaiire & Nick Wales’ beautiful cover version of ‘Broken Wings’ will be the first single from the soundtrack and will now be serviced to radio and television in the New Year.
